ITBA Autumn Winter 2017 Veterinary Lecture Series: The ITBA is hosting an Autumn / Winter Veterinary Lecture Series, Thursday, 23rd November 2017 at Palmerstown Estate, Johnstown, Co Kildare

The first presentation entitled “Management of the Barren Mare for Optimal Fertility” will be delivered by Professor Sidney Ricketts, formally of Rossdale & Partners, Newmarket. He will cover approaches to the breeding management of the problem mare. The second presentation will be delivered by Mark MacRedmond of Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital who will cover all aspects of veterinary requirements for selling horses to Hong Kong.

The evening, which will be chaired by Des Leadon, ITBA Veterinary Consultant commences at 8pm, It includes a Q&A session and concludes with light refreshments. The Veterinary Council of Ireland has awarded 2.5 CVE credits to the lecture series for all veterinarians and veterinary nurses.

Professor Sidney Ricketts, LVO, BSc, BVSc, DSc, DESM, DipECEIM, FRCPath, FRCVS, formally of Rossdale & Partners, Newmarket

Sidney Ricketts qualified as a veterinary surgeon at the University of Bristol in 1971 after intercalating an honours degree in biochemistry at the same university. He interned in equine medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, as a Thouron Fellow, before joining Rossdale & Partners in Newmarket, in 1972. He became a partner in 1975, then managing and then senior partner, before retiring his partnership in 2012 at the age of 65 years. His particular clinical interests are equine reproduction and stud medicine. He is also particularly interested in equine clinical pathology and was responsible for developing and managing Beaufort Cottage (now Rossdales) Laboratories in Newmarket. He is currently joint Veterinary Advisor to the TBA and to the Alborada Trust.  He is now a consultant to Rossdales and to others in the fields of equine stud medicine and pathology and continues to report equine endometrial biopsy histopathology and equine cytology at Rossdales Laboratories

Mark MacRedmond, MVB MRCVS CertVPM

   Mark MacRedmond is based at Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital, The Curragh. The practice has a strong thoroughbred breeding and racing bias, and provides a full veterinary service to horses from conception through to eventual retirement from racing and breeding. Since qualifying as a Veterinary Surgeon from UCD in 1989, Mark has worked in equine practice in Ireland, Australia and the Middle East, and has been at Anglesey Lodge since 1998. He sits on the ITBA Veterinary Committee, and is a member of the pre sales veterinary panels at Goffs and Tatts Ireland. He is also a member of the Hong Kong Jockey Club panel of Nominated Veterinary Surgeons. He has a particular interest in the routine Veterinary care of racehorses, and performs a number of pre-purchase examinations on racehorses for international clients each year, on horses destined to continue their racing career in places such as Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, Australia, Eastern Europe etc.
